PMJDY completes six years today; PM says it’s a game changer initiative

Central government's flagship financial inclusion programme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has completed six years today. The scheme was launched on 28th of August in 2014 with an aim to provide universal access to banking facilities to the people in the country. While launching the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described the occasion as a festival to celebrate the liberation of the poor from a vicious cycle. Over 40 crore 35 lakh bank accounts have been opened under the scheme since its inception and One lakh 31 thousand crore rupees have been deposited in these accounts. About eight crore PMJDY account holders are receiving Direct Benefit Transfer from the Government under various schemes.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana initiative has been a game-changer and serving as the foundation for many poverty alleviation initiatives, benefitting crores of people. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, six years ago, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched with an ambitious aim of banking the unbanked.  Prime Minister said a high proportion of beneficiaries are from rural areas and are women. He said, the future of several families has become secure. Mr Modi also applauded all those who have worked tirelessly to make Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana a success.

Officials said, casualties could increase given the intensity and location of the blast. 11 per cent GDP growth projected by Economic Survey 2020-21 for next financial year

Economic Survey 2020-21 has projected  GDP growth for the next financial year at 11 per cent. It has suggested that the growth recovery will be driven by government consumption. The Economic Survey  2020-21, tabled by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today suggested that the net exports and government consumption have cushioned the growth from further plunge. It says that the GDP for the current financial year is estimated to contract by 7.7 per cent. It further says that the nominal GDP for the next fiscal is expected to grow at 15.4 per cent. The Economic Survey gave a detailed analysis of India's V-shaped economic recovery after the shadow effect of the corona pandemic. It says that the mega vaccination drive supports the V-shaped recovery.
