Election Commission team reviews poll preparedness in Kerala

The Central Election Commission team which is currently in Thiruvananthapuram to assess the pre-election preparations in the state will have discussions with various enforcement agencies at noon today.

This will be followed by interactions with the State's Chief Secretary and other senior officials. Further s will be communicated through a press conference today evening. Yesterday the central team had a series of discussions with various senior government officials, political party representatives and District Collectors. The LDF, UDF had requested the Central Election Commission to conduct the polls before the second week of April.

However, the BJP has opined that the polls be conducted only during May. The central team headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora will leave for Delhi tomorrow.

Two more bodies were recovered today and the death toll has reached 34 now. AIR Correspondent covering the calamity reports that around 170 people are still missing and some of them are feared to be trapped in the tunnel. The herculean effort to reach the trapped people through the slush and heavy boulders continued on the fourth consecutive day at the calamity site in Chamoli district.
