The Centre has asked states to prepare a District Action Plan to check the spread of COVID 19. Under this plan, states have been asked to set up Emergency Operations Centers with a team to monitor the indicators, growth and spread of the virus round the clock. Mapping of cases, area wise review, and formation of containment zones are other measures to be adopted. In a letter to state Chief Secretaries while citing the rising numbers of COVID cases in the country, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said COVID appropriate behavior must be enforced by the authorities. He has also asked States to involve elected representatives, local influencers and celebrities to ensure COVID appropriate behavior among people. States have also been asked to focus on mortality reduction by examining case fatality rate, identifying localities and hospitals with high death rates. All districts with high caseload and fast growth of COVID cases have been directed to ensure 100 percent vaccination of the priority age group of 45 years and above in the coming two weeks.

Stressing that efficient implementation of Test, Track and Treat strategy remains the only proven method to control the transmission, the Health Secretary reiterated the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, and hand sanitization. He said many districts are witnessing clusters of cases due to specific events where people gathered in large numbers without following social distancing norms. He warned that any complacency at this stage will have a heavy cost.
