One-man judicial panel to probe Parambir Singh's charges against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh

Maharashtra Government has appointed Justice (retired) Kailash Uttamchand Chandiwal to probe the allegations leveled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh in his letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The order issued by the Maharashtra’s General Administration Department states that the scope of inquiry will be to ascertain if there is any truth in Singh’s letter and whether he has submitted any proof regarding the alleged irregularities or corrupt practices being followed by state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. The inquiry will confirm if the purported conversations between the former top cop and ACP Sanjay Patil and suspended police officer Sachin Vaze are correct. The high level single member committee will further advise the government if the matter needs to be probed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau or any other department.
 
Bombay High Court will begin hearing former Mumbai Police Chief Parambir Singh’s petition today. In his petition, Singh has sought a probe against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh for allegedly demanding collection of 100 crore rupees as extortion money. The PIL also raises the issue of alleged corruption in police transfers and postings in the state. Senior counsel Vikram Nankani, appearing for Singh, mentioned the petition before a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni yesterday and sought urgent hearing. Nankani said the main prayer is for a CBI probe into the serious allegations levelled by a senior IPS officer against a state minister. Satisfied with Nankani’s statement, the court posted the matter for hearing today.

11 per cent GDP growth projected by Economic Survey 2020-21 for next financial year

Economic Survey 2020-21 has projected  GDP growth for the next financial year at 11 per cent. It has suggested that the growth recovery will be driven by government consumption. The Economic Survey  2020-21, tabled by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today suggested that the net exports and government consumption have cushioned the growth from further plunge. It says that the GDP for the current financial year is estimated to contract by 7.7 per cent. It further says that the nominal GDP for the next fiscal is expected to grow at 15.4 per cent. The Economic Survey gave a detailed analysis of India's V-shaped economic recovery after the shadow effect of the corona pandemic. It says that the mega vaccination drive supports the V-shaped recovery.
