Over 59k new cases reported in country in last 24 hours; Maharashtra reports nearly 36k new cases in one day

At present, there are four lakh 21 thousand 66 active COVID-19 cases in the country which comprises 3.55 per cent of the total positive cases. Amid the rising new cases, a total of 59 thousand 118 new cases have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative positive cases to over one crore 17 lakh.

Five States, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat have reported a surge in daily new cases. Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 35 thousand 952. It is followed by Punjab with 2 thousand 661 while Karnataka reported 2 thousand 523 new cases. Three States, Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab together account for over 73 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

The Health Ministry said, 257 deaths have been reported within a day taking the toll to over one lakh 60 thousand across the country. Various laboratories have conducted more than 11 lakh tests of corona virus samples in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative testing to more than 23 crore 86 lakh.

11 per cent GDP growth projected by Economic Survey 2020-21 for next financial year

Economic Survey 2020-21 has projected  GDP growth for the next financial year at 11 per cent. It has suggested that the growth recovery will be driven by government consumption. The Economic Survey  2020-21, tabled by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today suggested that the net exports and government consumption have cushioned the growth from further plunge. It says that the GDP for the current financial year is estimated to contract by 7.7 per cent. It further says that the nominal GDP for the next fiscal is expected to grow at 15.4 per cent. The Economic Survey gave a detailed analysis of India's V-shaped economic recovery after the shadow effect of the corona pandemic. It says that the mega vaccination drive supports the V-shaped recovery.
