Over 62,700 new COVID cases reported; six States account for 80 per cent of new cases

In the last 24 hours, 62 thousand 714 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, 80 per cent of which are reported from six states. These are Maharashtra, Punjab, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Gujarat & Madhya Pradesh. The number of active cases in the country today stands at just above 4 lakh 86 thousand, comprising around 4.06 per cent of the total reported cases.

Three hundred and twelve deaths were reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 taking the cumulative toll to 1 lakh 61 thousand 552. In the same time period, over 28 thousand people recovered from the infection. Recovery rate in the country presently stands at  94.59 per cent.

Indian Council of Medical Research says, over 11 lakh 81 thousand samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country yesterday.
