President Kovind addresses convocation ceremony of University of Kashmir in Srinagar

In his address, President Kovind said that he was delighted to be on in this land of great historical and cultural significance. He said that Kashmir has been called ‘Rishi Vaer’, the land of saints and has always attracted spiritual seekers from far and wide.
Mr Kovind said, the University of Kashmir has made remarkable progress as three lakh students received degrees today with more than 2.5 lakh bachelors and more than 1,000 doctorates over the past eight years.
He said that the University of Kashmir has added another feather in its cap with the setting up of two centres that are of high importance. One is devoted to glaciology and the other to Himalayan Biodiversity Documentation, Bio-prospection and Conservation and it is impossible to write a history of Indian philosophy without referring to Kashmir’s contributions to it. He further said that one of the oldest manuscripts of the Rigveda was written in Kashmir and this is the most conducive region for the philosophies to prosper.
Mr Kovind said that Kashmir has turned a new leaf and exciting new possibilities are opening up and the whole of India is watching towards it with admiration and pride. He said that Kashmiri youth are scaling new heights in a variety of sectors, from Civil Service Exams to sports and entrepreneurial ventures.
The Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha who happens to be Chancellor of the University, his Advisers, Member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah, Vice Chancellors of various Universities among others were present on the occasion.
AIR correspondent reports that the President wished the audience present on the occasion in Kashmiri language " Me SAPUEZ KHUSHI TOHI MEELITHH" which means that he was glad to meet them. He further said that he was delighted to be among them today in this land of Kashmir which is of great historical and cultural significance popularly called "Reash Vaer", the land of saints. He said, University of Kashmir has made a remarkable progress in the field of Education to award degrees to about three lakh students today.He awarded Gold Medals to ten students who have passed out for various streams in the academic year 2020-21.
Mr Kovind said that he wants to see Kashmir as paradise on earth for which he squarely bank on the younger generation of Jammu and Kashmir to realise this dream which, he said, will come true very soon.
